Call Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris is on the Senate Intelligence Committee. The action item today is to:  call the members of the Senate Intelligence Committee at (844) 241-1141 urging them to come together across party lines and call for a Special Prosecutor. Since Kamal Harris is one of our Senators you will be put through to her. (If neither of your Senators is on the committee, you will be randomly connected to a Republican member of the committee.)

Talking Points

With National Security at stake, we need the Senate Intelligence Committee to get smart and start erring on the side of caution rather than “hoping for the best.” Here are three key things to tell them:

First – We, the public, need to be assured that the criminal investigation has not been blocked or interfered with by the President and the President’s own words yesterday make us more nervous rather than less. They have an obligation to level with us and avoid covering up or explaining away the President’s actions.

Second – We don’t want a special prosecutor to replace the Committee’s work – we want them to work together. A special prosecutor should not create a “turf battle” with the Intelligence Committee, in the way that a Select Committee might. For example, the Intelligence Committee cannot pursue a criminal investigation. Some members of the Intelligence committee continue to describe their work and the appointment of a Special Prosecutor as an “either / or” when it should really be a “both / and.” Caution says that we should be using all available means to investigate foreign interference in our elections.

Third – We get that Donald Trump can be difficult to work with and dangerous to cross. We are not asking you to make trouble for the point of riling up the President. Part of the reason why we are appealing to you as a Committee to link arms AS A GROUP is because you are much safer from retaliation by the White House (for example Presidential Tweet-storms) or the Kremlin (for example, your emails being hacked) if you do the right thing as a group rather than go out on a limb on your own.

We are paying close attention. We aren’t fools. We will remember who did the right thing and who did the right thing only after we had to drag them, kicking and screaming.

Two Minute Action

This is a quick one, ideal for a two minute work break: Call the Dept of Justice right now!

☎️ (202) 353-1555

This number goes directly to voicemail and they won’t call you back. Here’s a message you can leave:

“Hi. My name is [name], calling from [zip code] in [state]. I’m calling to demand that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein immediately appoint a Special Prosecutor to oversee the ongoing investigation into Russia’s ties to the White House and to the 2016 election. Thank you for registering my support for the immediate appointment of a Special Prosecutor.”

Info about Syria

This is a quick one: tell you senators to force Trump to comply with Freedom of Information Act requests on his air strikes in Syria.

Call 84-241-1141 to be connected or dial them directly.

Healthcare, III

HealthCare

The Senate’s healthcare Working Group has 13 men and – you guessed it – zero women.  The daily Action today is to call 844-241-1141 – you will be connected (with any luck) to one of the 213 senators in the health care working group.  Please ask them some basic questions:

why is this an all male working group?

Why aren’t Susan Collins or Lisa Murkowski included?

Did they not realize that that was a problem and if they did, why didn’t they speak up and demand a change?

This is exactly what led to the inclusion of having had a C-section or breast cancer as a pre-existing conditions but erectile dysfunction and prostate cancer are not.

There is also not a black or other minority representative here.  No big surprise here with only 3 black and Asian and 4 Hispanic members in the Senate

Reprehensible!

Healthcare, II

In addition to telling the telling the House members that we will work tirelessly to get  the out in 2018 we need to start lobbying the Senate. Our two should know, but they – especially Diane Feinstein with so manny years in the Senate – must be in a position to influence her republican colleagues.

Another action item for the Friday and the weekend:  Let’s tell her we need her to use her influence and power to stop this madness.

HealthCare – Obviously

vote them out

Yesterday the Republicans House in the House decided that tax cuts are more important than health insurance for the poor, sick and frankly a good portion of the middle-class or what remains of it.

The Senate might be less vile so there is some hope but at least now we know where the Republicans in the House stand.  Not with the people.

It is a disgrace at all Republican Californian Congressman and one Congresswoman voted for TrumpCare or rather Trump-Not-Care.

So, today it is easy to know what to do: call, email, send postcards, tell them that we wont stand for it.  even if we are not in their district we can register voters, canvas, help get them defeated.  Suggest to them they start looking for a new job because this one is coming to an end in 2018.

I already started with our almost local Jeff Denham in CA-10. Darrell Issa is a good target, too, he won with less than 1000 votes.

This is a long game, if you can, volunteer for voter registration in republican districts. Here is a place to start:

EO on so-called Religious Freedom

ACLU

The Nation claims that Trump is preparing an Executive Order that would create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity.  The article provides more information.

This can’t be legal and we are all looking towards the ACLU to protect our civil liberties against religious nutcases.  We can’t have doctors/nurses/health care administrators refuse services to gay people, we can’t have pharmacists asking women whether they are married before handing over contraceptives or refusing to hand them over at all.

Time has come to donate some more money to the ACLU.  They are our best hope in this fight against the religious “values”.

Here is to link to donate. I just did

Moderate Republicans need to heat from us about TrumpCare 2.0. Republicans are short 2 votes with 2 undecided.  Here is a list of moderate republicans, among them several CA House reps, incl. the guy next door: Jeff Denham in CA-10.

Call the Senate and demand action on the Russia investigation

Nothing has happened really, no staff and no progress. We need to make clear that we expect more action, way more!

Suggested language to make it easier:

Hello: I am calling Senator ____ in his/her capacity as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.  I don;t think that enough is being done to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia.  Chairman Burr has not been and effective leader and this investigation and should recuse himself. Please push for a complete and timely investigation.

Thank you for your time
